Hispanic supermarket chain Northgate Market has launched online ordering and curbside pickup capabilities to better meet the shifting needs of today’s consumers.

The grocer, which opened in 1980 and operates 42 stores in California, teamed with NCR to leverage its Freshop e-commerce solution.

“We needed to bring the Northgate experience to our customers digitally but also cost-efficiently and were excited how quickly we were able to do that with NCR,” said Mike Hendry, Northgate executive VP, marketing and merchandising, in a statement.

The minimum order is $25, according to Northgate’s website, with a $4.99 service fee. It’s available seven days a week.

Expanding fulfillment options is a key priority for retailers thanks to pandemic-prompted digital acceleration. Indeed, 43% of retailers in RIS News' annual Supply Chain Technology Study cited buy-online-pickup-at-curb (BOPAC) as a top fulfillment opportunity to increase their sales or margins.

Headquartered in Anaheim, CA, Northgate has stores in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego counties. The deployment extends its relationship with NCR, which previously included the rollout of the solution provider’s Emerald POS solution on its Commerce Platform to unify its store technology.
