JCPenney and Lamps Plus both made recent leadership appointments, bolstering their tech and marketing efforts, respectively.

JCPenney has tapped Keith Melker as its chief transformation and strategy officer. In the role, Melker will oversee the company’s transformation, strategy, and partnerships to ensure initiatives maximize value creation and align with corporate strategy throughout JCPenney’s reinvention phase.

This includes optimizing corporate processes and forming strategic partnerships focused on driving profitable consumer traffic, elevating inventory management, advancing digital innovation, and evolving the brand’s delivery model.

Melker was previous CEO of Wehner Multifamily, a Texas-based property management company. He was also previously the chief strategy officer for Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

“As we continue our transformation journey into 2023, we’re laser-focused on achieving our goals to better serve our customers as they turn to JCPenney for style and value,” said Marc Rosen, CEO of JCPenney, in a statement. “Keith’s extensive experience in transformation work and strategic leadership abilities will make him a valued advisor in this next step for our organization.”

Specialty lighting retailer Lamps Plus created a new executive chief marketing officer position, naming David Luebke to the role.

In the new position, Luebke will help the brand reach new customers, provide elevated and increasingly personalized experiences across web and retail, and develop the brand and its growth strategies across marketing and innovation.

Luebke brings more than 20 years of experience in digital marketing, e-commerce, and omnichannel retail. He was previously the VP of marketing at Build.com, director of digital marketing for Walmart, and digital marketing manager for ConAgra Brands.

Luebke said he is excited to join a company which has a “breadth of selection driven by product innovation, including thousands of exclusive items,” that really sets the company apart.

“I look forward to helping customers discover the solutions that fit their needs and personal style, whether online or in one of our many showrooms,” added Luebke.

Lamps Plus co-founder and CEO Dennis Swanson said Luebke has years of proven success in the home decor industry and beyond, bringing extensive knowledge across consumer and professional channels.

“This will bring Lamps plus to new heights, as the lighting and furniture industries continue to evolve. David’s skills in both the digital and retail spheres make him the ideal executive to run the Lamps Plus marketing division, and we’re delighted to bring him on board in the company’s first ever chief marketing officer role,” said Swanson.
