Walmart's New Online Home Shopping Experience May Boost Sputtering E-Commerce Sales

2/23/2018

Walmart will be launching a new digital shopping experience for home products in the coming weeks. The online Home destination page will feature curated collections guided by design trends and in-house stylists.

The news comes just two days after the mega retailer announced its Walmart U.S. fourth quarter e-commerce 2018 sales grew 23%, down from a 50% jump in the previous quarter.

According to Anthony Soohoo, SVP and Group General Manager, Home, Walmart U.S. eCommerce, this launch is just a "first glimpse of our broader Walmart.com redesign," which will launch later in 2018.

The home destination will offer up nine shop-by-style options, including modern, mid-century, traditional, glam, industrial, bohemian, farmhouse, transitional and Scandinavian. Editorial-style imagery and design tips will enable customers to discover different styles and how to pull together a complete look.

"Over the past year, we’ve nearly doubled our home assortment and introduced a wide variety of furniture and home decor items, like a new Scandinavian line of furniture for kids and refreshed assortment of modern furniture," says Soohoo. "Now, it is going to be that much easier for customers to shop these items and more."

Later this spring, Walmart is rolling out its new Lord & Taylor flagship store on Walmart.com, an online destination that will offer premium fashion brands directly from the Lord & Taylor flagship.

“We see customers on our site searching for higher-end items, and we are expanding our business online to focus on adding specialized and premium shopping experiences, starting with fashion," said Denise Incandela, Head of Fashion, Walmart U.S. e-commerce.
