Walmart wants to make it easier for consumers to select and install new tires on their vehicles, just in time for summer road trips.

Consumers can now search for tires by year, make and model of their vehicle and book an installation appointment from Walmart’s website and mobile app. They can also track the status of their vehicle while it’s being worked on in a Walmart Auto Care Center in the mobile app, as well as receive text updates when service is complete.

Walmart is also leveraging its partnership with Eko as part of a new interactive Walmart Tire Finder experience on Walmart.com. There, shoppers can virtually interact with Scott, a Walmart Auto Care Center associate, who helps them select tires based on their weather, warranty and budget preferences through a series of questions.

Once a tire is selected, consumers can add it to their cart and then schedule an installation appointment. The new digital experience is powered by Eko, the video development firm Walmart has teamed with for its Holiday Toy Unboxing and Camp by Walmart retail experiences.

No. 1 retailer Walmart operates around 2,500 Auto Care Centers, which will store the customer’s vehicle service history.

Leveraging technology to provide better customer service when it comes to tires is a growing trend. Discount Tire recently deployed a mobile computing solution across its nearly 1,100 stores that can read tire tread depths and Department of Transportation information.

Co-developed by Anyline and Accucode, and featuring Zebra Technologies’ Android-based TC75x mobile computer, the laser-based tread-reader accessory works in tandem Anyline’s Tire DOT Scanner software improve associate productivity and efficiency.
