Walmart to Add 100 Veterinary Clinics to Retail Stores

Walmart is expanding its in-store retail veterinary clinics business, planning to add 100 clinics over the next 12 months. The mega retailer is starting with nine new clinics in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas in late May and June. Walmart claims the clinics save customers as much as 40-60% on vaccines and minor illness packages and exams.

Walmart has also introduced its first online pet pharmacy for prescription medications. Customers can now purchase prescription pet medications at WalmartPetRx.com and have them delivered. Walmart Pet Rx offers pet prescriptions for dogs, cats, horses and livestock from over 300 brands to treat conditions like flea and tick, heartworm, allergy, arthritis and more. Later this month, Walmart will add the top 30 most requested pet medications to its 4,500-plus pharmacies to allow shoppers to get per prescriptions filled same-day.

Additionally the retailer has expanded its online pet assortment with more than 100 new pet brands over the last year, including more premium and health-conscious brands.
