Top ‘Reputable’ and ‘Trusted’ Companies
Trust and reputation often go hand in hand, and with two new ranking reports out it’s clearer which retailers are offering these positive attributes to their customers.
Newsweek and Statista's “America’s Most Trusted Companies 2022” list was revealed last week, ranking the top 400 Most Trusted Companies across 22 industries. The RepTrak Company’s “2022 Global RepTrak 100” report, ranking of the top 100 companies worldwide by Reputation Score, came out this week.
Below we break out the retailers found on each of these lists.
America’s Most Trusted Companies 2022
While trust can be hard to measure, Newsweek and Statista looked at publicly traded U.S. corporations in 22 industries with $500 million or more in annual revenues and then surveyed 50,000 U.S. residents. Respondents were asked about companies they knew well and were, asked among other things, if they believed individual companies treated their customers fairly, treated their employees fairly and would be good long-term investments.
While the full list comprises 400 companies Americans “trust the most,” ranked by industry, some industries had a larger presence on the list. Thirty-two retailers were included, making retail the category with the second highest number of ranked companies (after energy and utilities).
Southeastern Grocers Inc., parent company of Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, is ranked the No. 3 retailer, a win that Raymond Rhee, chief people officer for Southeastern Grocers, attributes to its inclusive environment.

100 Most Reputable Companies
Reputation institute The RepTrak Company's 12th annual ranking utilized its advanced reputation monitoring software to gather data from more than 243,000 ratings globally. This helps it understand the public’s perceptions of the most important elements of corporate reputation: ESG (Environmental/Social/Governance), workplace fairness, leadership, innovation, branding, and more.
In 2022, the global RepTrak Reputation Score declined for the first time since 2018. RepTrak data demonstrated the public’s disappointment in the corporate sector on a global scale. Perceptions in APAC and Europe drove this shift, bringing the global average Reputation Score (scale is 1-100) down from 74.9 in 2021 to 74.2 in 2022.
“Corporate reputation is constantly evolving,” said RepTrak CEO Kylie Wright-Ford. “As the world remained in flux, Top 100 companies were exceptional in their efforts, rising up to intense and complex stakeholder expectations on ethical, supply chain, and workplace issues globally.”
The LEGO Group, which was the top ranked retailer, also came in at No. 3 overall on the reputation list, with a score of 78. The LEGO Group held the No. 1 spot for the two years in-a-row prior. Over the past decade, The LEGO Group is one out of only two companies to consistently rank in the Top 10 most reputable companies.
“LEGO’s strong reputation is well-rounded; people perceive all aspects of its business positively, particularly the company’s products and services," said RepTrak.
