Following successful pilots, Target is scaling curbside pickup and same-day home delivery of in-store purchases, giving consumers more fulfillment options as the retailer looks to simplify the shopping experience for its customers.

Shoppers throughout the Southeast are now able to use Drive Up, Target’s curbside pickup service. This convenient, timesaving service is now available in nearly 270 stores and allows guests to place orders via the Target app, then have their items brought out to their cars by a store team member. Orders arrive within two minutes of when a guest pulls into the store parking lot.

Fueled by overwhelmingly positive guest reviews from the Minneapolis-area pilot launched last fall, Target plans to continue expanding Drive Up to reach guests at nearly 1,000 stores across the country by the end of 2018.

How the Drive Up service works:

  • Customers select Drive Up as the fulfillment option when placing an order through the Target app
  • Target notifies the customer when their order is ready — typically within one to two hours
  • Shoppers hit the “I’m on the Way” button when they are headed over to the store
  • Customer parks in a designated Drive Up spot, and within two minutes a team member will have the order at their car, ready to be loaded in the trunk or backseat

In addition to the expansion of its Drive Up service, Target simultaneously announced the scaling of same-day home delivery of in-store purchases.

Following a small scale but highly successful pilot at four New York City stores last year, Target will be rolling out the service to around 60 stores in BostonChicagoNew York CitySan Francisco and Washington, D.C. While at the checkout, shoppers in those select stores will have the option of having their purchases delivered to their home for a flat $7 fee. The service is idea for large-scale purchases like furniture, which is very difficult to get home in an urban environment. Oversized orders are subject to an additional $25 handling fee.

Details of the service:

  • Signage at stores and team members will alert customer of the service
  • At checkout customer tells the cashier they would like home delivery
  • Customer chooses delivery window, provides address and relevant delivery info, and leave items at the store
  • Driver picks up the order and delivers it during the chosen delivery window

Target is committed to leveraging its network of more than 1,800 stores and its enhanced supply chain operations and digital technologies to provide convenient shopping options for consumers nationwide. The retailer offers free two-day shipping on hundreds of thousands of items on Target.com and will be making same-day online deliveries through Shipt nationwide by year’s end
