Lisa Roath will assume the role of executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Target Corporation, the company announced in a recent statement. Roath will be responsible for expanding upon the company’s core marketing functions, including guest marketing strategy, retail brand experience, social media, creative, paid media strategy, and marketing strategy and operations.

“Lisa’s detailed understanding of the retail landscape, her experience leading teams to deliver strong business results and her deep knowledge of and empathy for our guests make her the ideal candidate to steward Target’s brand and grow our relationship with guests,” said Carl Sylvester, executive vice president and chief guest experience officer.

A 17-year Target veteran, Roath previously oversaw a period of extensive company growth, with Target establishing itself as one of the leading digital grocers nationwide, with food and beverage sales of more than $5 billion since 2019.

Her leadership helped quadruple the number of emerging bands within the company. She also led a companywide merchandising transformation, improving the overall merch experience, streamlining processes for bringing products to market, and improving retail fundamentals.

“It was a huge effort that required me to collaborate with a number of teams and leaders across our enterprise and understand how each area contributes to the total business,” said Roath in a recent interview.

Before that, she held additional leadership roles within Target, including managing merchandising teams and pricing and promotions. Reporting to Sylvester, Roath will become a leadership team member effective immediately.

“Target’s marketing has long been a key differentiator for our brand, and it plays a critical role in helping us foster meaningful connections with the millions of guests who shop with us,” said Roath. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead this best-in-class team as we work together to fuel those connections with our guests, driving deeper loyalty and continued sales growth for years to come.”
