The grocery retailer has named Bill Artman its permanent CEO. Artman had been serving as CEO on an interim basis since March 2023, after the previous CEO, Laura Karet, abruptly departed the company.

Artman is a Giant Eagle veteran, having worked with the regional grocer for almost 40 years. Throughout his time at Giant Eagle, Artman has held several executive leadership positions, including president of supermarkets, executive VP, and senior VP of retail operations.

“Bill already has made a tremendous impact in his interim role, giving the board confidence that he is the right leader to take Giant Eagle to new heights,” said Bart Friedman, board chair. “Over the past five months Bill has established a new business strategy and assembled a strong executive leadership team comprised of an accomplished group of professionals with decades of relevant experience who have both a keen understanding of the company’s unique standing as a multi-format retailer and a strong vision for its future.”
