Danielle Crop has joined Albertsons Companies as senior VP, chief data officer, a new role for the company.

Most recently chief data officer at American Express, Crop will be responsible for building and executing a central data strategy for the grocery retailer, which operates stores across 34 states and Washington DC under such banners as Albertsons, Safeway, Jewel-Osco, Acme, Shaw's, United Supermarkets, Market Street and Kings Food Markets.

The addition of the role intends to signify a step change and acceleration of Albertsons’ ability to leverage data strategically across the enterprise, and Crop will employ machine learning and advanced data science capabilities to enhance its performance. She also has experience in analytics, data management, modeling and digital experimentation, scaled agile digital transformation and product management.

During her 15 years at American Express, she was at the front of the company’s data science initiatives to improve customer experiences, and Chris Rupp, Albertsons executive VP and chief digital officer, noted the importance of understanding today’s customer and being able to deliver on these expectations of where and when they want to shop.

“How we translate what we get from data into an enhanced customer experience will further differentiate us as a locally great and nationally strong retailer,” he said. “Danielle’s work has been at the intersection of data and the customer experience for the majority of her career, and we are excited to have a leader of her caliber to guide Albertsons Companies’ customer experience into the future.”
